"Live Amateur Theatre at it's best"

In 1988 the Parish Council
Approached Tom Cole and asked him
to create a local drama group based
at the then new Community Centre.
Tom had been involved with the
Theatre for many years, including,
with his wife Freda the running of the
Little Theatre in Stanley Street in
Lincoln and so his response to the
request was that he would be pleased
to help. He therefore became the
founder of what was then called The
Washingborough and Heighington
District Community Players later to
become The Penfold Players, and it's
first President.

In January 1989 The Washingborough and Heighington District Community Players
put on their first and professional production of Mother Goose. But, there was a major
problem, the name of the group was just too long and it was also a bit of a tongue
twister and so, after one intrepid member of the group looked in the actual Penfold at
the Junction of Penfold Lane and School Lane and read the notice, which mentions
and enclosure for strays from Washingborough and Heighington, it was agreed that
the name Penfold Players would fit the bill. Since then The Penfold Players have
gone from strength to strength including the formation of Young Penfold. This is for
people who are too young to join Penfold Players. During its life Penfold Players has
raised large sums of money that have been donated mainly to local charities. We also
raise money for ourselves to keep us going. We look forward to entertaining our
audiences even more for many more years to come, and thereby raising even larger
amount for charity in the future.
In 2001 The Penfold Players suffered a loss of one of its most loved members.
It is sad to say that The Penfold Players founder Tom Cole sadly died.
